I see it constantly in my own neighborhood. Passengers approach a stop sign, slow, and then round off the flip without completely stopping. It is illegal and everybody knows it. For some reason, we simply won't take the opportunity to follow specific traffic safety rules. Here are five reasons you must always fully stop at stop signs.
1. It’s the law and you could get a ticket
I understand you know it's illegal. Everyone knows that rolling through stop signals is prohibited. You probably won't get caught in your neighborhood. But stopping at stop signs in your area might be the most significant area you should always completely cease.
2. You could cause a collision or run over a pedestrian causing horrible injuries
Once you get in a habit of rolling throughout the neighborhood stop sign, you begin to pay less attention to what you are doing. You glance in both directions, but you miss the car coming toward you. Maybe you miss the football ball rolling down the road and kid following behind. Nobody ever intends to cause injury to another, however, your option to roll through this stop sign may lead to horrible consequences.
3. Your behavior sets an example for our children
Children don't do what we tell them to perform, children do what we do. When we roll through stop signs, our kids will when they begin driving. Worse, our behavior teaches children not to follow some safety rules when there is a time-saving benefit.
4. Children depend on you stopping
Our kids know that automobiles need to stop at stop signs. The choices they make are dependent on the way the world works around them. Children may cross the street, counting on you minding the security rules and stopping at the stop sign. Kids may continue after the soccer ball rolling down the street because they are depending on you after the safety rules.
5. You set an example for your community
Finally, all of us set the security rules for our community. If more people set an example and follow the rules, others will follow also. As our community puts more importance on following the security rules, the safer our neighborhood will be.
The extra couple of seconds you remain in the stop sign will be well worth the price tag.
